James Paul “Jimmy” Gracey: Beloved Resident His Missing
Authorities and family members are urgently seeking leads after James Paul “Jimmy” Gracey, a 21‑year‑old student at the University of Alabama, was reported missing while on spring break in Barcelona, Spain. The disappearance has raised deep concern at home and abroad as search efforts intensify.
Jimmy was last seen at approximately 3:40 a.m. local time outside the popular Shoko nightclub after spending time out with friends. He reportedly became separated from the group and never returned to the Airbnb near Ronda de Sant Pere where he and his friends were staying.
Described by his family as originally from Elmhurst, Illinois, Jimmy is about 6 feet 1 inch tall and weighs around 175 pounds. When last seen, he was wearing a white T‑shirt, dark pants (possibly joggers), and a distinctive gold chain with a rhinestone cross. While authorities have recovered his phone, there has been no confirmed contact from him since his disappearance.
The case has drawn considerable attention, with classmates and friends working to spread awareness. Cavin McLay, president of the Theta Chi fraternity, said members are actively sharing information and have reached out to various officials—including members of the U.S. Senate and a White House representative—in hopes of accelerating the search.
The University of Alabama has issued a statement saying it is in communication with Jimmy’s family and offering support during this difficult time. Meanwhile, local police in Barcelona continue their investigation.
Jimmy’s loved ones are urging anyone with information or who may have seen him to come forward immediately. As concern grows, family and friends remain hopeful for his safe return.
