I‑40 Iredell County Crash Kills Morganton Driver, and Leaves Passenger Hurt

Fatal SUV Rollover Claims Life of Morganton Resident on I‑40

Iredell County, N.C. — Lee Glover, 78, of Morganton, died Monday morning when his SUV rolled over on Interstate 40 near mile marker 154. Officials with the North Carolina State Highway Patrol reported that Glover lost control of his 2010 Toyota Highlander, which left the road, struck an embankment, and flipped multiple times before coming to rest.

Glover was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene. Catherine Glover, riding in the front passenger seat, sustained injuries that required medical attention but were not life-threatening. Authorities said weather and road conditions were clear, alcohol was not involved, and excessive speed likely contributed to the accident.

The community has expressed condolences to Glover’s family, noting his longtime presence in Morganton and dedication to family. Troopers continue to emphasize safe driving practices, and further updates will be shared as more information is confirmed.
