The Lancaster County Coroner’s Office has identified David Bain, 66, of Danville, Georgia, as the man who died during an attempted traffic stop in Elizabethtown. Police reported that an officer observed a Ford F‑150 operating without lights and driving erratically shortly before 2 a.m. on March 15. After the officer attempted to stop the vehicle, it continued for several miles before pulling over on West Bainbridge Street.

Before officers approached, the driver sustained a self‑inflicted injury. Emergency personnel attempted to provide aid, but Bain was pronounced deceased at the scene. An autopsy later confirmed the manner of death as suicide.

Police noted that the vehicle had substantial front‑end damage consistent with a prior crash, though no related accident scene was found. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are seeking information from the public.
