Abbotsford Hospital Lockdown Lifted After Police Response
Abbotsford, British Columbia — A precautionary lockdown at the Abbotsford Regional Hospital and Cancer Centre was lifted Monday afternoon after police investigated reports of a possible weapon inside the facility.
The Abbotsford Police Department said officers were called to the hospital shortly after 2 p.m. on March 16 following reports from staff that a person may have been seen carrying a firearm. In response, hospital officials immediately enacted a lockdown to ensure the safety of patients, staff, and visitors.
Police deployed a substantial response, with roughly 30 officers conducting a thorough search of the hospital, inspecting each floor and room. During the investigation, the suspect reportedly left the premises in a vehicle and was later apprehended at a separate location. Authorities confirmed that no shots were fired and no one was injured during the incident.
By approximately 3:15 p.m., police declared the hospital clear and safe, lifting the lockdown. Hospital operations resumed as normal, and officials confirmed there was no ongoing threat to public safety.
Police thanked hospital staff and members of the public for their cooperation and patience during the response. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the weapons report is ongoing.
