Matthew Perez Death Obituary – Accident Roswell

An overnight rollover crash in southwest Roswell resulted in the death of a 19-year-old driver, with excessive speed and suspected alcohol use believed to be key contributing factors.

The Roswell Police Department’s Traffic Unit continues to investigate the incident, identifying the deceased as Matthew Perez of Roswell. Authorities state Perez left a party during the early morning hours of March 18 while operating an Audi Q5 SUV. Witnesses reported that he exhibited signs consistent with alcohol impairment prior to departing.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that Perez stopped at a parking lot along North Main Street, where he reportedly fired a single gunshot into the air before resuming travel toward the southwest portion of the city. At approximately 2 a.m., the vehicle is believed to have been traveling at a high speed when it collided with a fire hydrant and a utility pole along the 1700 block of South Union Avenue. The impact caused the SUV to roll over multiple times before striking a residential structure at the corner of South Union Avenue and North Plains Park Drive.

Police confirmed that Perez was not restrained by a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene. While the residence sustained structural damage, the vehicle did not enter the interior of the home, and no injuries were reported among its occupants.

This crash represents the third fatal traffic incident handled by the department in the past month. In each case, speed has been identified as a significant factor.

Police Chief Alberto Aldana expressed condolences to the families involved and stressed the importance of seatbelt use and community vigilance in preventing impaired driving. He encouraged individuals to intervene when possible or contact law enforcement if someone attempts to drive under the influence.

Obituary, memorial, visitation, and funeral service information will be released by the family at a later time. All investigative details remain preliminary, and not all information has been fully verified.
