Durham Triple Shooting: Local Rapper Tevin “YBT” Burney Among Two Killed, Woman Hurt North Roxboro Street

In Durham, the sound of gunfire shattered the quiet of a late Friday night — leaving behind grief, questions, and two lives lost.

It happened along North Roxboro Street, near the Regency Place Apartments. When officers arrived, they found three people inside a car, all suffering from gunshot wounds.

Two of them — 23-year-old Tevin Burney and 26-year-old Jarrett Godfrey — did not survive.

Burney, known to many as “YBT,” was part of 83 Babies, a group that built a following in Durham’s music scene. In the hours after the shooting, tributes spread quickly — messages remembering his music, his energy, and the mark he left on those who followed his work.

A woman who was also in the vehicle survived and is expected to recover physically, though the emotional impact remains.

For now, police have not identified any suspects or explained what may have led to the shooting. Investigators are continuing their work, asking for help from the public as they try to piece together what happened.

For the community, the loss is already being felt — two young men gone, a night that changed everything, and a search for answers that continues.

The families will release obituary, memorial, funeral, and visitation details at a later time. Until then, some information remains subject to confirmation, and this report may be updated as additional details emerge.
